Blueberry Banana Smoothie

In my attempts to eat breakfast everyday, smoothies are becoming my best friend.  I am by no means an expert on smoothie making so I basically have been taking the approach of throw anything in and push "blend".  So far so good!

1/2 banana
1/2 cup Greek yogurt

Cabernet, Cabernet, and more Cabernet

My mom just shared a new blog with me that I absolutely LOVE!  It is called Good Wine Under $20.  The women who writes to blog, Deborah Harkness, is actually the author of The Discovery of Witches.  My mom is obsessed with her trilogy and posted about it and this blog a few days ago.  As you all know, I am a huge red wine drinker and in particular love Cabernet... I mean who doesn't love it?!  I am always looking for new kinds that are rich in flavor but aren't going to put Moe and I more in debt than we already are!  I don't know much about wine and am hoping to take a wine class in the near future, but I do know that I like the less fruity ones that are bold and relatively dry.  Deborah Harkness had a post a few weeks ago that I really like.  It had great ideas for the next time I go to the store to stock up!

A Recipe for Inner Peace....

My friend sent me this at work the other day.  I could not stop laughing so I thought you all might need alittle humor to brighten your day :)

I'm passing this on because it worked for me today. A Dr. on TV said to have inner peace we should always finish things we start & we all could use more calm in our lives. I looked around my house to find things I'd started & hadn't finished, so I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of Valiuminun scriptins, an a box a chocletz. Yu haf no idr how fablus I feel rite now. Sned this to all who need inner piss. An telum i luvum..

2006 White Oaks Chardonnay

With it being so hot in good old Saint Louis, I have started to take more of a liking to white wine.  As I was sifting through my wine cabinet, I came across a bottle I had purchased at a wine tasting event with some friends years ago.  When I say years ago, I am pretty sure that it was four years ago which is before marriage, Skyler, moving, etc..  It is a sin to let a bottle of white wine sit that long.  I have a terrible habit of buying a nicer bottle of wine and then sitting on it for months (or in this case years) waiting for the perfect moment to justify opening it (which apparently means I never felt that the right moment came over the four years this bottle sat in my cabinet).  That might seem like a good idea, but what is the point of buying it if you aren't going to enjoy it?! I am working on this concept and decided to start with this bottle of Chardonnay.  I wasn't sure what to expect as I wasn't exactly thinking clearly when I had decided to make the purchase, but I was pleasantly surprised.  It was a bottle of 2006 White Oaks Chardonnay.  I am not a wine connoisseur, but I thought it was very smooth with a buttery taste.  Although it has a hint of lemon flavor, it still is a traditional dry Chardonnay.  I will have to hunt down where in town I can buy this as I think Moe will really like it.

Review: Columbus Winter Warmer

Last year, I was all about experimenting wine.  This year, I am all about trying new beers.  Last week Moe and I, along with a couple of our friends, went to Burgundy Room for dinner.  I decided to try the Columbus Winter Warmer which is a seasonal beer from the Columbus Brewing Company.  I loved it!  It has hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger.  If you are in need of a comforting drink that reminds you of Christmas, I definitely recommend this beer!

Drug of choice

As many of you know, I am addicted to diet coke.  I know it is a seriously problem as it has becomes the central point of my day, but I just can't get myself to address the issue.  I have noticed a pattern in my life.  I give up diet coke 100% for about a month (if that).  I then go through a period where I'll just have one (12 oz) every other day; however, that quickly changes into every day and then eventually a 24 oz everyday religiously by 9 am.  When I say everyday, I mean it.  It is the first thing I think of when I wake up in the morning (actually if i could hook up an ivy that would inject diet coke into while I was sleeping, I would do it).  The two biggest problems I have when I drink diet coke regularly is #1) headaches and #2) sleep disturbance.  Most people think caffeine keeps them up at night.  This is very true for people who drink it periodically. However, when you have caffeine all the time, it does the opposite effect.  I actually get really tired and have less energy.  I only confess my disturbing addiction with hope that actually writing about it will help me realize how ridiculous it is and how in desperate need I am to give it up.  Three years ago I gave up all soda pop with caffeine for an entire year.  My plan is starting January 1, 2011 (can't believe that it is already 2011), I will give soda up again.  Until then, I will continue enjoying my 24 ounces a day of pure heaven and the miserable headaches that accompany it.
